Bayview Residential Green Infrastructure Partnership

CAN! partnered with neighbors Julia and Justin to create a 300 ft2 permeable patio (what’s that?!) and a rainwater harvesting tank for the urban farmers (Justin and Julia) to irrigate their backyard flower gardens.

Capturing rainwater from the southern pitch of the couple’s roof, the “drainage management area” DMA is 450 ft2, meaning, all that stormwater is now going to flow into the newly installed permeable patio.  The difference comes down to space between the pavers and increased gravel below to ensure that the stormwater infiltrates into the more clay soils.  About 22’ of soil was removed, replaced with gravel to ensure water flow into the space, and infiltration into the ground watertable.  This is working!  And J+J are watering with rainwater right here in SF’s Bayview.
