Green Schoolyards & Living Classrooms
Green Schoolyards & Living Classrooms
At CAN!, we believe school grounds can become vibrant, living classrooms that nurture both students and ecosystems. Our Green Schoolyard Services transform asphalt and underused spaces into gardens, habitats, and outdoor learning zones—in partnership with school communities.
What We Do
- Work with schools to design and build rain gardens, native plantings, pollinator beds, edible landscapes, and permeable paving
- Install street trees, kid-friendly plantings, and infrastructure like benches, signage, and paths
- Support curriculum integration, garden clubs, and student stewardship so the space becomes a hands-on learning resource
- Maintain and enhance existing garden spaces over time through funding support and community care
Our Experience
We’ve brought these ideas to life at:
- Independence High School – Link
- James Lick Middle School – link
- Washington High School – LInk
- Panorama Elementary – Coming soon…
Why It Matters
Green schoolyards:
- Help absorb rainwater and reduce runoff
- Provide shade, cooling, and habitat in urban areas
- Offer outdoor classrooms where students engage in ecology, science, and art
- Cultivate pride, environmental literacy, and community connection
If your school wants to build a living classroom that teaches, inspires, and endures—let’s make it happen.
